Vito Friscia Goes Deep Twice as IronPigs Fall to WooSox

Allentown, Pennsylvania (April 20, 2023) – Vito Frisicia swatted two solo homers but the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (6-11) were still toppled by the Worcester Red Sox (8-9) by a final score of 7-4 on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Ronaldo Hernandez blasted a two-run homer, his first of the year, to open the scoring for Worcester in the second inning. David Hamilton poked a two-out RBI single later in the frame to make it 3-0.
Both teams plated runs in the third. Daniel Palka singled home a run for Worcester while Friscia hit his first solo homer of the game in the bottom of the frame.
Worcester tacked on two more in the fourth. Bobby Dalbec singled home a run and was followed by a run scoring fielder’s choice off the bat of Wilyer Abreu to make it 6-1.
The IronPigs scraped back a run in the fifth. Simon Muzziotti singled and stole second to start the inning before Weston Wilson singled him home later in the frame.
Friscia went deep for a second time in the seventh, giving him three homers total on the season, while cutting the deficit to 6-3.
A Ryan Fitzgerald RBI double pushed the Worcester lead back to four runs in the top of the eighth.
In the ninth, Jim Haley doubled to start the inning and ultimately came in to score on a Muzziotti groundout. The IronPigs managed to bring the tying run to the plate but Chase Shugart held on for the WooSox to claim the 7-4 win.
Chris Murphy (1-1) spun a quality start for Worcester, firing six innings while allowing two runs on five hits and two walks, striking out five.
Nick Allgeyer (0-1) took the loss for the IronPigs, allowing three runs in 1.2 innings on four hits and a walk, striking out two.
The IronPigs continue their series against the WooSox on Friday, April 21. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
