(Great Falls, MT) - The Great Falls Voyagers (2-6/21-34) dropped a seesaw battle Sunday night versus the Missoula Paddleheads (5-3/40-16). The score changed hands four times with the Voyagers coming up short at the end.
The Paddleheads started the game out in the first inning with a home run from McClain O'Connor that just barely cleared the left field fence. Voyagers answered back in the bottom of the first on a single by Troy Dixon, single by Jason Matthews, and a ground out by Ben Norman scoring Dixon. A double by Kyle Crowl scored Norman to put the Voyagers up after one, 2-1.
The third inning saw the Paddleheads get to starting pitcher, Nathan Harmon a bit as they scored 5 runs to take a 5-2 lead. Voyagers bats stayed strong though as they closed the gap with 3 runs of their own in the 4th inning. Nick Emanuel started the 4th off with a walk, a single by Jackson Raper and a double by Dom Abbadessa scoring them. Abbadessa was then brought home by a double from Jason Matthews.
Trailing 7-5 going into the bottom of the 5th as the Paddleheads scored one in their half of the inning, the Voyagers came back strong. Michael Deeb started the inning off with a double, followed by a single from Chris Caffrey. Deeb scored on a single to right by Emanuel, Raper reached on a fielders choice bringing home Caffrey, and he was brought home by a Dixon double.
Leading 8-7 the Voyagers couldn't hold on to the lead as they allowed 5 runs to score in the top of the 6th inning. A dent was put into that lead however as 3 Voyager runs came across in the bottom of the 6th. Two walks drawn by Matthews and Norman were rewarded with Deeb's 3rd home run of the season, a towering shot over the right field fence, closing the gap to 12-11.
That is the closest the Voyagers would get unfortunately as they gave up two more in the 8th and ended up losing by a final score of 14-11. The Voyagers will finish this homestand versus the Paddleheads on Monday taking the field at 7 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m.
