The Biloxi Shuckers (41-28) and Mississippi Braves (28-41) needed ten innings to find the game's first run, but Troy Stokes Jr. drew a walk with the bases loaded to hand the Shuckers a 2-1 victory at MGM Park on Saturday night.
The first nine innings brought with it a pitcher's duel. LHP Kodi Medeiros stranded eight base runners over five scoreless innings. The lefty struck out seven. Following Medeiros, RHP Miguel Sanchez and LHP Quentin Torres-Costa each turned in two scoreless frames for the Shuckers to blank the M-Braves.
On the other side, RHP Enderson Franco allowed just two hits over seven innings without allowing a run. LHP Adam McCreery kept Biloxi off the board in the eighth and ninth to send the game to extras.
In the top of the tenth, the M-Braves scored their first run since the tenth inning of Thursday night's game. Bonus runner Tyler Neslony came home on an RBI-single by Alex Jackson. With the bases loaded and nobody out, RHP Daniel Reynolds (W, 1-0) induced a pair of weak pop flies to shallow centerfield. Tyler Marlette tried to tag and score from third on the second fly ball, only to be thrown out by Trent Grisham by several steps at home to end the inning.
Down 1-0, bonus runner Darren Seferina wasted no time by stealing third base during the first at-bat of the bottom of the tenth. Tyler Heineman then looped a single to right field, scoring Seferina to tie the game. After RHP Chad Sobotka (L, 1-2) got pinch-hitter Keston Hiura to pop out, the righty suddenly struggled to throw strikes. Sobotka issued walks to Grisham and Blake Allemand to load the bases. He then fell behind in the count 3-0 to Stokes Jr. before firing two straight strikes to bring the count full. Stokes Jr.'s excellent eye at the plate watched ball four miss high to bring in Heineman, the winning run for Biloxi.
Biloxi and Mississippi wrap up the first half with a 4:05 PM CT start on Sunday afternoon. RHP Trey Supak (0-3, 6.30) and RHP Andres Santiago (3-2, 4.03) battle before the Southern League takes a three-day break for All-Star festivities.
