WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 22, 2017) - Jameson Fisher sent the crowd of 4,224 fans at BB&T Ballpark home happy on Thursday evening, stroking a walk-off single to left that scored Toby Thomas and gave the Warthogs a 6-5 victory over the Buies Creek Astros.
In the final frame, Telvin Nash laced a one-out double against Buies Creek (0-1, 37-34) lefty Matt Bower (2-3) off the base of the center field wall to set up the dramatics for Fisher. After Thomas replaced Nash as a pinch runner, Fisher, who was promoted to Winston-Salem (1-0, 25-46) earlier Thursday afternoon, sliced a base hit into the left field corner that allowed Thomas to score easily and sent Winston-Salem to its second walk-off hit of 2017.

Jack Charleston (2-1) earned the victory after spinning the final 1.1 innings, giving up just two hits. Ian Hamilton tossed a pair of scoreless frames in relief, maintaining his perfect ERA with Winston through eight appearances this season.
Danny Mendick also shined for the Warthogs, as the Fairport, N.Y., native registered his first career four-hit performance in the professional ranks. The 23-year-old collected a single in each of his first two at-bats before clubbing a towering blast to the Nature's Select Knoll in the sixth for his career-best sixth home run of the season. The UMass Lowell product added a base hit in the eighth to cap his four-hit night.
Winston-Salem right-hander Brannon Easterling hurled five innings for the Warthogs, surrendering three runs on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout. Myles Straw scored all three of those runs for the Astros, with Anthony Hermelyn driving him in twice.
Winston broke through against Buies Creek starter Framber Valdez in the fourth, as Brady Conlan and Mendick notched run-scoring knocks to tie the contest before Howie Brey, who came on in relief of Valdez, walked Luis Basabe with the bases loaded to give the Warthogs a 3-2 lead.
The Astros briefly took a 5-4 lead in the eighth against Winston-Salem left-hander Louie Lechich on an RBI single by Randy Cesar and a passed ball by Zack Collins, but the Warthogs knotted the game at five in the home half of the frame on a Joel Booker infield single to first.
The Dash continue their four-game series with the Astros on Friday at 7 p.m. at BB&T Ballpark. Winston-Salem right-hander Dane Dunning (3-2, 3.29 ERA) will oppose Buies Creek southpaw Brett Adcock (1-3, 5.72 ERA) on the mound in game two of the four-game set. Play-by-play coverage is available on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App, beginning at 6:45 p.m.
Friday's contest is packed with promotions, including postgame fireworks, presented by Mast General Store. Green Bay Packers cornerback and ECU product Josh Hawkins will make a special appearance at the ballpark on Friday, with Hawkins set to throw out the first pitch and sign pregame autographs. Also, kids can run the bases following Friday's game, powered by New Balance Winston-Salem. For tickets and more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
