Oliva's 3-Hit Night Lifts Black Bears
AUBURN, NY - The West Virginia Black Bears beat the Auburn Doubledays 4-2 in the first game of a three-game series on Monday night.
The Doubledays took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Black Bears responded with a run of their own in the top of the second. Dylan Busby led the inning off with a single to left field and was brought home to tie the game by Lucas Tancas.
An RBI single by Bligh Madris put the Black Bears ahead 2-1 in the fifth and a sac-fly by Deon Stafford Jr. helped tack on another run for West Virginia in the inning. The Black Bears scored their final run in the game in the seventh inning whenJared Oliva hit a double to left, scoring Andrew Walker .
Auburn scored a run in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't come away with any more runs for the rest of the game. Black Bears starter Ike Schlabach improved his record to (2-2) in the win and recorded 5 strikeouts.
Sharpe's RBI Single Comes in Clutch
AUBURN, NY - It took eleven innings for the Black Bears to beat the Auburn Doubledays 7-6. Home runs by Lucas Tancasand Tristan Gray helped lead the Black Bears to victory Tuesday night.
The Black Bears and Doubledays were tied 3-3 heading into the top of the fifth inning. The Black Bears broke the tie in the fifth inning when Tristan Gray blasted a two-run homer over the right field fence. Deon Stafford Jr. knocked in a run with a double and gave the Black Bears a 6-3 lead in the top of the seventh.
Auburn scored two runs in the eighth and one run in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings. Chris Sharpeput the Black Bears ahead in the eleventh inning with an RBI single to centerfield. Blake Weiman improved to (3-0) in the win and Matt Seelinger came into the bottom of the eleventh and picked up his first save of the season.
Auburn Wins Long Game in Extras
AUBURN, NY - The West Virginia Black Bears were defeated by the Auburn Doubledays 5-4 in 13 innings.
The Doubledays held a 3-0 lead over the Black Bears until the top of the seventh inning. An RBI triple by Bligh Madris put West Virginia on the scoreboard. West Virginia cut into the lead again in the same inning when Jared Oliva hit an RBI single to center to make the score 3-2.
West Virginia rallied in the top of the ninth, scoring two runs. Chris Sharpe scored the first run by racing home when Doubledays' pitcher Jared Basher threw a wild pitch. The Black Bears took a 4-3 lead when Bligh Madris hit his first home run of his professional career.
The Doubledays scored a run to tie the game off a wild throw in the bottom of the ninth. The extended to thirteen innings before Auburn scored the game winning run with a line drive RBI to centerfield.
The Black Bears (17-12) begin a six game home stand tomorrow, starting with a three game series against the State College Spikes.
