Pensacola, Fla. - The Generals turned the tables on Pensacola Tuesday night, scoring late to down the Wahoos 3-2 in game two of the series. Jamie Westbrook led off the ninth inning with a solo home run to give Jackson it's first lead of the contest, and it wound up being the decisive blow. The teams were tied at two going into the ninth inning, but the game was quickly untied.
Westbrook led off the frame by taking Pensacola's Zack Weiss (2-4, 3.98) deep towards the bay beyond the left field fence. The solo shot put Jackson in front 3-2, giving them the lead for the first time in the contest. The Generals have now won ten games in their final at-bat this season.
Joey Krehbiel (2-4, 3.46) got a well-deserved victory on the mound, pitching two scoreless innings to finish the game. He stranded the potential go-ahead run at third base in the eighth inning before working around an error in the ninth. Blake Trahan, who reached on a Jackson miscue with two outs, was thrown out trying to steal second to end the game.
Pensacola (27-30, 67-60) took an early lead on Nick Senzel's 10th home run of the year. The former Tennessee star took Brad Keller deep with Arismendy Alcantara on base, and the Wahoos went up 2-0. That wound up being it for Pensacola on offense. Keller tied a season-high with seven strikeouts in five innings.
Jackson (26-31, 63-64) scratched their way back into the game against Keury Mella, who pitched six innings for Pensacola. In the second, Michael Perez doubled and came in to score the team's first run on a Kelly Dugan double. In the fourth, Jamie Westbrook singled with one out and moved to second on a Dugan walk. With two outs, Vladimir Frias came through to tie the game. His single to center knotted the game at two.
The bullpen was fantastic for the Generals. Andury Acevedo and Yuhei Nakaushiro each pitched scoreless innings before Krehbiel came in. The three relievers combined for four innings of one-hit baseball.
The series in Pensacola continues Wednesday with the middle game. Frank Duncan (1-1, 2.51) pitches for Jackson after taking a no-hitter into the ninth his last time out. His opponent is Pensacola's Austin Ross (7-0, 1.59), who is undefeated in 15 starts for the Wahoos this season.
