Whalen, Chiefs Beat Cougars Thursday

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs scored three runs in two separate innings to clinch a winning homestand and beat the first-place Kane County Cougars 6-3 Thursday night at Dozer Park.   Brady Whalen went two-for-three with a homerun, four RBI and a walk earning the Pekin Insurance Beyond the Expected

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs scored three runs in two separate innings to clinch a winning homestand and beat the first-place Kane County Cougars 6-3 Thursday night at Dozer Park.   Brady Whalen went two-for-three with a homerun, four RBI and a walk earning the Pekin Insurance Beyond the Expected Player of the Game.

     The Chiefs entered the bottom of the third trailing 2-0 but took the lead against Kane County starter Matt Tabor. Jonatan Machado singled with one out and Brendan Donovan walked with two outs to put runners on first and second. Both scored on Brady Whalen's second home run of the homestand and seventh of the season to give the Chiefs a 3-2 lead.  
     Peoria continued to build their lead in the bottom of the fifth, chasing Tabor from the game. Josh Shaw led off with a double and Donovan was hit by a pitch with two outs. With runners on first and second Whalen hit a single to score Shaw for the 4-2 lead and Imeldo Diaz launched a two-run double to left-center to push the Chiefs lead to 6-2.
     Parker Kelly (3-1) earned the win pitching six innings allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Rodard Avelino did not record an out allowing one run on one hit with two walks. Tony Locey pitched two shutout innings allowing one hit and striking out two. Leonardo Taveras pitched the final inning allowing on one hit with one strikeout earning his second save of the season.
      The homestand concludes on Friday, August 2 at 6:35 p.m. with post game fireworks on Harry Potter Night. The broadcast can be heard, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:20 p.m. on the Peoria Chiefs Tune-In Page, which is free and also has a free app for smartphones and tablets. The game is also available on MiLB.TV for subscribers. Dress up as your favorite Harry Potter character and enjoy the sights and sounds from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The Chiefs will also wear Harry Potter themed jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit EP!C. There will also be memorabilia and collectibles from Harry Potter autographed by the stars that will be part of a raffle. There will also be a pitch-in for charity benefitting EP!C.
