There have been plenty of changes that have taken place on the hallowed grounds of Falcon Park over the years. It has been a stockyard, a horse track, a modified race track, and more, but recently more known for bringing you memorable entertainment as a baseball stadium. The park got a serious upgrade after the 1994 season as the decrepit old Falcon Park made way for the new and improved stadium we have today. Since reopening in 1995, there have been some noticeable upgrades to the park that have enhanced the fan experience. Each year, little by little, there have been changes to keep up with the times, but the winter of '17-18 took the upgrades to a whole new level! This article will help Doubledays fans get the most out of their experience at the ballpark this year.
The 1st Base Deck Expansion
The newly expanded first base deck will focus on a number of craft breweries from throughout New York State this season, was expanded during the 2017-18 offseason to enhance fan experience and bring them closer to the game than ever before.
The newly renovated deck extends towards the visitors bullpen along the right field foul territory to give fans the closest view of Falcon Park yet, all while having the opportunity to enjoy quality New York brews at affordable prices. The 3700 sq. ft. deck will definitely be the hot spot this summer!
To experience the deck first hand, single-game tickets for all Doubledays games can be purchased at the Doubledays ticket office, online at auburndoubledays.com, or by calling (315) 255-2489.
Kids Zone
Our kids zone will be relocated to a more central location next to the restrooms behind the first base line grandstands due to the expansion of our craft beer deck. The area was used as a satellite concession stand last year, but the Kids Zone will be a better fit.
"We're really excited about the new look to Falcon Park, and the movement of the Kids Zone really exemplifies that," said Doubledays general manager Adam Winslow. "Our deck has increased to three-times the size as it was last year, and because of that we had to move the Kids Zone to somewhere with a little more space."
The Kids Zone will have a few new activities for young fans, including the Auburn Doubledays mini golf hole used every year at the United Way Tournament.
New Netting at Falcon Park
With the well being of our patrons in mind, the Auburn Doubledays will be adding additional safety netting in Falcon Park for the 2018 season.
Safety netting will be expanded to sections 101 and 110, as well as the hospitality areas along the first base deck and the Holiday Inn Party Pavilion. The additional netting will serve as a barrier between fans and potentially hazardous flying objects such as foul balls and broken bats.
"Safety is always the number one priority here at Falcon Park," Winslow said. "It's our goal to ensure that the fans arrive and leave safe and satisfied from their visit here to watch the Doubledays."
For more information about the new netting, feel free to call the Doubledays office at (315) 255-2489 or email us at [email protected].
Satellite Concession Stands: 1st Base, 3rd Base & Deck
The Doubledays acknowledge that service at the main concession stand hasn't been to the standard that we have come to expect over the years, so the front office did something about it. Newly built satellite stations will be placed in each of the open concourses (1st Base & 3rd Base), as well as a station on the newly expanded deck. These mini concession stands will serve ballpark favorites - including hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, and popcorn. Sodas and select adult beverages will also be served. The purpose of these stations is to limit the wait time for patrons looking for a quick bite without missing much of the game.
The Wride Club
The Wride Club, named after New York-Penn League historian and dear friend of the Doubledays, Charlie Wride, will be a central hub for entertainment before and after the game. The Club will serve as the location for the Doubledays' pre- and post-game shows, as well as a place to receive autographs during player appearances.
"The Wride Club is going to be amazing. We're definitely looking forward to get this season started so we can get the party started already," Winslow said. "The Doubledays are going to be airing all 38 home games this year, and the Wride Club is going to be a great place to start and finish each broadcast."
The Club will also serve as a VIP center where club members will be able to receive discounted food and beverages in that area. The Wride Club will be located adjacent to the Doubledays' bullpen with special access through Gate 4. For further information on joining the Wride Club, call the office at (315) 255-2489 or check it out at www.auburndoubledays.com.
Center Reserved Seating
The Center Reserved seating area has been a part of the General Admission seating since the reopening of the new Falcon Park 23 years ago. The Doubledays have decided to make this an exclusive seating area for patrons looking to enjoy the game while under the roof and behind the netting, directly behind home plate.
In the past, ushers were used primarily for service to the premium box seats, but the Center Reserved area will now be able to use that service as well. Each patron will have a specific ticket for their seat, and will receive assistance from ushers to find their locales. In addition to the usher service, food and beverage vendors will be available up and down the aisles to provide the fans yummy food and refreshing drinks without having to leave their seat!
For more information on the Center Reserved sections 204-208, give the office a call at (315) 255-2489 or visit the website at www.auburndoubledays.com.
The Party Platforms
The excitement doesn't end there in the Center Reserved sections! Our new party areas are the perfect option for groups of up to 25 fans to watch the Doubledays under the shade during the 2018 season. Complete with all-you-can-eat catered food and a bar, sections 204 and 208 offer great views along the first and third base lines to maximize your gameday experience at Falcon Park.
"Sections 204 and 208 are going to be great," said Winslow. "We've been working on building the new decks all offseason and we can't wait for the fans to get the best in-game experience in the league while also watching some great Doubledays baseball. It's the best place in the park to watch the game."
"It truly may be the best place in the park to watch the game," said assistant general manager Andy Collier. "If you get a chance to have a party or see the field from this vantage point, we highly recommend it!"
