COMSTOCK PARK, MI – The West Michigan Whitecaps got a solid bounce-back outing from Adam Wolf and scored on a pair of runs on late wild pitches as the offense came alive in a 5-3 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps in front of 4,676 fans Tuesday night at LMCU ballpark.

After allowing five earned runs through 2.1 innings in his last appearance, Wolf struck out six TinCaps hitters through five shutout innings in Tuesday’s game. Daniel Cabrera finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a triple as Tigers 6th-round draft pick Austin Murr plated his first High-A RBI with a sacrifice fly in the win.

Cabrera and Murr plated individual runs in the bottom of the first inning to put West Michigan in front 2-0. Fort Wayne responded in the sixth inning as Justin Lopez singled before a throwing error from third baseman Jose King allowed two runners to cross the plate, tying the game at two. Chris Givin delivered Fort Wayne the lead in the seventh, plating Reinaldo Ilarraza on a single to make it 3-2. Whitecaps catcher Cooper Johnson tied the game on an RBI double in the seventh, 3-3. West Michigan jumped in front 5-3 on two wild pitches in the seventh and eighth before Zack Hess sent the TinCaps down to secure the Whitecaps victory.

Bryce Tassin (3-5) allowed one run through two innings of work with a strikeout in his third victory, while Hess picked up his tenth save of 2021. TinCaps reliever Edwuin Bencomo (5-4) allowed two runs through two innings pitched in his fourth loss this year. The Whitecaps improve to 43-48 as the TinCaps fall to 43-48. Johnson came into the game 3-for-32 in August before blasting the game-tying RBI double down the right-field line.
