GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had a few opportunities against the West Michigan Whitecaps on Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. However, the Whitecaps held Wisconsin off the scoreboard and plated three late insurance runs on their way to a 4-0 win in the game and a series victory as well.

West Michigan (8-9) took the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by José King.

That was the only run allowed by Wisconsin starting pitcher Justin Jarvis. The right-hander scattered five hits and walked one while striking out four.

Wisconsin (8-10) had a great opportunity in the bottom of the fifth inning. LG Castillo and Je’Von Ward singled to start the inning against reliever Zac Shepherd. Shepherd struck out the next two batters before Angel Reyes was called into the game from the Whitecaps bullpen. Reyes hit Korry Howell to load the bases, but a flyout to right left the bases loaded.

Rey Rivera made the Rattlers regret stranding three runners when he hit a two-run home run to right-center as the third batter of the top of the sixth. The homer was the fourth of the series for Rivera. An error later in the inning let in another run for West Michigan for a 4-0 lead.

The Rattlers kept putting runners on base to give themselves opportunities. In the bottom of the sixth, Thomas Dillard walked, Carlos Rodríguez reached on an error, and Castillo collected his second hit of the game with a single to load the bases with one out against Reyes. However, Yaya Chentouf took over and got out of the inning with a 6-4-3 double play.

Wisconsin did not threaten to score again and were shutout for the first time this season.

The Whitecaps won four of the six games in the series.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday. They return to action on Tuesday to start at six game series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
