"Whiz Kids" Fall To Paw Sox, 8-4

Rhys Hoskins hit his league-leading 19th homer, and Scott Kingery hit his third home run, however, The "Whiz Kidz" (50-30) were defeated 8-4 by the Pawtucket Red Sox (38-39)Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park before 9,635 fans.

The Paw Sox used a four-run sixth inning in route to doubling up the Whiz Kids.
Pawtucket jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second as Blake Swihart hit an RBI single, scoring Steve Selsky to give the Red Sox the games first run. Allen Craig then bounced into a double play that scored Brian Bougesevic .
The Pigs answered back with a two-run third inning to tie the game at 2. Pedro Florimón and Scott Kingery both scored on a base hit from Jorge Alfaro, and an errant throw allowed Kingery to score.
Back-to-back doubles by Steve Selsky and Brian Bougesevic regained the lead for the Red Sox, as they took a 3-2 lead. Heiker Meneses then sent a RBI single, plating Boguesevic to increase the Paw Sox lead to 4-2.
Kingery then launched a solo home run to lead off the Whiz Kidz fifth inning, to narrow the deficit to 4-3.
Pawtucket then jumped on Pigs reliever Mark Peterson in the sixth inning, as they scored all four runs off the right-hander, extending the Paw Sox lead to 8-3.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Hoskins launched a ball over the left field wall 404 feet, and the Paw Sox were now only up 8-4.
The Whiz Kids went quietly in the ninth to end the game as Florimon grounded out, followed by a Kingery fly out to left and ended on a J.P. Crawford fly out.
The loss marked the first time the Pigs have lost a series at home this season, previously the team had won nine series and split two.
The Pigs continue their eight-game homestand as they welcome the Rochester Wings to town for a four-game set. The IronPigs will send right-hander Jake Thompson (3-8, 6.07) and the Red Wings will send right-hander Tim Melville (2-0, 3.68).Postgame Friday Night Fireworks will light up the sky at Coca-Cola Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
