STOCKTON, Calif. — It was a one-run game going into the ninth against the Giants on Tuesday night, before San Jose plated four runs in top of the inning to secure a 10-5 win over the Caballos de Stockton in game one of the six-game series.

The Giants jumped out to a 1-0 lead when former Major Leaguer Wade Meckler belted a solo home run to deep right on the second pitch of the game. The Caballos answered right away in the bottom of the inning when Darlyn Montero singled and stole a bag before Nate Nankil doubled him in to tie it at one apiece.

A three-run third, however, for the Giants would prove to be the difference in the game, with two RBI singles for San Jose and a balk from starter Yunior Tur in between for a 4-1 Giants lead. Stockton would answer again in the bottom of the inning, but would only plate one run on a sac fly from Montero to cut it to 4-2 after having runners at second and third with no one out.

A solo home run (5) from the Giants’ Guillermo Williamson made it 5-2 in the top of the fourth, but the Caballos cut it back to 5-3 on an Elvis Rijo RBI single in the bottom of the inning. The Giants top prospect Bryce Eldridge homered (7) to left in the fifth for a 6-3 San Jose lead, and it would remain that way until the bottom of the seventh.

The Ports started a two-out rally on base hits from TJ Schofield-Sam and Robert Puason, and an error in shallow center on a fly ball off the Rijo plated them both to cut it to one run at 6-5 after seven innings. Jackson Finley was pitched brilliantly in his first two innings of relief, but ran into trouble in his third inning of work in the top of the ninth.

A single and a walk were followed by an RBI base hit for Williamson to make it 7-5. A hit-by-pitch loaded the bases before a single past shortstop Myles Naylor made it 8-5. A bases-loaded walk scored another, before Mark Adamiak came in and allowed a run to score on a wild pitch for a 10-5 Giants lead.
