He also drove in three runs, bringing his season total to a team leading 42 on the season. Humpal (2-8, 4.62) started the fourth by getting a popout to center, but then gave up back-to-back singles to Dallas Carroll and Demi Orimoloye before then allowing Wilson's two-run triple with two outs in the frame. He went on to allow one more run in the fifth, before giving up a RBI single to Wilson and a run scoring double to Cooper Hummel in the sixth.
Carolina had a 6-0 lead through the sixth after totaling six runs and eight hits against Humpal (2-8, 4.62) over the first half of the game. Humpal took the loss and finished with a walk and a strikeout.
Roegner (8-4, 2.10), meanwhile, scattered just two hits while pitching through the sixth without allowing a run. He at one point retired 11 straight between the second and sixth innings, but would end up allowing two runs and two hits in the seventh before leaving the game. In all, Roegner allowed two runs on four hits, struck out four and walked three while earning the victory.
The two run Frederick seventh cut Carolina's lead to 6-2, but a two-run home run from Rodriguez in the eighth would put Carolina up 8-2. The home run was Rodriguez's first of the season and came off reliever Isaac Silva. The Keys used both Silva (2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO) and Mike Burke (0.1 IP, 1 SO) the rest of the way.
Rodriguez went 1-for-4 in the game for the Mudcats and drove in two runs. Hummel also had two RBI and went 1-for-3 with a run scoring double. Devin Hairston also drove in a run while going 1-for-4 and Orimoloye scored twice while going 2-for-4.
The only run scoring hit of the game for the Keys came in the seventh when Jake Ring had a two-out, two-run single off Roegner. Ring was 1-for-4 in the game with two RBI and catcher Yojhan Quevedo was 2-for-4 with a run.
Roegner worked into the seventh and was eventually spelled by reliever Wuilder Rodriguez, who went on to work through an inning and a 1/3 scoreless. Braulio Ortiz then pitched the ninth and ended up with a walk and a strikeout while finishing the game.
The home win ran Carolina's current winning streak to four straight games. The loss, meanwhile, extended Frederick's current losing streak to eight straight games. The game started late and featured a one hour and 32 minute delay due to rain before the game.
The series will continue on Friday night with game three scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at Five County Stadium. Friday's game will feature post-game fireworks presented by House Autry. The game will air on the Mudcats Radio Network, the Big Dawg 98.5 FM and via TuneIn Radio at carolinamudcats.com.
