Winning streak ends at four

APPLETON, WI (May 17, 2017) - Following a slugfest win on Tuesday the Clinton LumberKings mustered just one run in a 2-1 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Wednesday night at Neuroscience Group Field. Nick Zammarelli III was the offense for Clinton as he belted his second home run of the year for the only LumberKing (15-21) run of the night.
Ljay Newsome started for Clinton and was sharp in his team leading eighth start of the season. The righty held the Timber Rattlers (18-18) scoreless threw his first four innings of work.
The LumberKings broke the scoreless tie with an opposite field home run from Zammarelli off Wisconsin starter Thomas Jankins in the fourth inning. The home run was the LumberKings fifth of the series but just one of their four hits on the night.
Jankins (2-2) earned the win with his longest outing of the year. The righty struck out five in in his 7.2 innings of work allowing just four hits while walking two.
Newsome (4-3) surrendered his first run of the evening to Trevor Morrison who homered to straight away center field with two out in the fifth inning. The home run was Morrison's first professional career homme run.
The Timber Rattler took the lead for good in the following inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Demi Orimoloye and Mario Feliciano lead off with singles to put runners at first and third with nobody out. In what proved to be the deciding paly of the game Tucker Neuhaus drove a sacrifice fly to right to bring home Orimoloye for the game's deciding run.
Clinton managed to get the tying run on in the ninth inning. Zammarelli walked with two men out but was thrown out trying to advance to second on a pitch that had gotten away from Timber Rattlers catcher Nathan Rodriguez.
The LumberKings needed just two pitchers in the game as Robert Dugger threw 2.1 innings of shutout relief.
Daniel Brown earned his fourth save of the year for Wisconsin with 1.1 innings of relief work.
The LumberKings will now head home to open up a four-game home stand and series with the Burlington Bees starting on Thursday night. Left-handed pitcher Danny Garcia (2-3, 5.13) will take the ball for Clinton and face Burlington's left-handed pitcher Nate Bertness (1-3, 5.55). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM (CDT) with the pregame show beginning at 6:20 PM (CDT) on 100.3 FM WCCI Erik Oas is on the call. Thursday marks the return of "Thirsty Thursday" and "Throwback Thursday" at Ashford University Field. Arrive early to take advantage of $1 Coors Light and Miller Lite draft beers from 5 PM - 8 PM. The LumberKings will also be paying tribute to past minor league affiliations by wearing throwback uniforms.
