WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 9, 2022) — Winston-Salem shutout the Wilmington Blue Rocks 5-0, with a Bryan Ramos grand slam providing the bulk of the offense.

In game five, Winston-Salem got on the board first. Alsander Womack drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the second inning. He then stole second base, but the throw carried into centerfield, and Womack popped up and advanced to third. Next, Ben Norman tapped a slow-rolling grounder to first base. Drew Mendoza flipped it underhand to the pitcher Rodney Theophile, but it dropped out of Theophile’s glove, and Womack crossed home to give the Dash a 1-0 lead.

Wilmington did not score in the top of the third, and then Terrell Tatum worked a leadoff walk. Tatum swiped second base, before Colson Montgomery drew a walk as well. Oscar Colas was walked on five pitches after that, to load the bases. Bryan Ramos got ahead in the count 2-0, then detonated on the next pitch, sending it into the Appalachian Mountain Brewpen for a grand slam. That was the 14th blast of the year for Ramos, who leads the team.

Garrett Schoenle came back out for a fourth inning with a 5-0 lead, and retired Wilmington in order. That would be the final frame for the southpaw, he scattered three hits across four innings, with just one walk and a season high six strikeouts.

Another left-hander, Luis Moncada**,** relieved Schoenle to begin the fifth. Moncada spun two more scoreless frames to hold the game at 5-0, while allowing just one hit.

In the seventh inning, Alex Mateo picked up where Moncada left off. Mateo was just promoted to Winston-Salem prior to the game, and fired a pair of scoreless innings himself. The righty allowed two base hits, and also struck out a pair.

Skyler Arias took the bump in the ninth inning for the Dash, and he did not falter in a perfect appearance, to lock down a 5-0 Dash win. Moncada was the winning pitcher for Winston-Salem, and Theophile took the loss on his record.
