GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers missed their opportunity to record a four-game sweep of the Clinton LumberKings to open the second half of the Midwest League season. Clinton defeated the Timber Rattlers 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
Clinton (34-39 overall, 1-3 second half) took the lead in the top of the second inning. Peyton Burdick, the 3rd round pick of the Miami Marlins in the 2019 draft who was making his Midwest League debut on Sunday, started the inning with a single. Thomas Jones followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Wisconsin starter Adam Hill got the next batter to ground into a 6-4-3 double play, but that allowed Burdick to score.

David Bradshaw was next and his routine flyball to left-center carried all the way to the wall for a triple. Connor Scott followed with a single and the LumberKings were up 2-0.

Wisconsin (34-39, 3-1) had their best chance against Clinton starting pitcher Tyler Jones in the bottom of the third inning when Korry Howell doubled to start the inning, but he was left stranded at third base. Jones worked five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, and struck out four to put himself in line for the win.

Adam Hill was the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers and he would work into the sixth inning. Hill scattered eight hits and three walks to hold Clinton to two runs during his time on the mound.

In the seventh, the LumberKings added two unearned runs against the Wisconsin bullpen with a little help from the Rattlers defense. Samuel Castro led off the inning with a grounder to short that was misplayed for an error. Will Banfield singled on a hit-and-run to move Castro to third. Evan Edward grounded in to a force play at second to get Castro home. Later in the inning, Burdick struck again with a two-out double to score Edwards from first and the LumberKings were up 4-0.

Wisconsin was charged with three errors in the game.

David Fry got the Rattlers on the scoreboard when he cracked a lead-off home run in the bottom of the ninth. Fry's home run was his eleventh of the season. He had two of Wisconsin's four hits in the game. Fry homered in three of the four games in the series with Clinton.
