Wisconsin Wins Big in Their Final Trip to Pohlman Field

BELOIT, WI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers made their final appearance at Pohlman Field a memorable one. Garrett Mitchell had four hits, including two homers, scored four runs, and drove in six runs to send the Timber Rattlers to a 16-6 win over the Beloit Snappers. Mitchell was far from the only offensive contributor as the Rattlers cranked eighteen hits in the game.

Wisconsin (25-28) jumped on Beloit starting pitcher Zach McCambley with four runs in the first inning. David Hamilton doubled on the first pitch of the game. Korry Howell followed with a double to left to score Hamilton. Mitchell was next and he cranked a home run to center for a 3-0 lead. Hayden Cantrelle capped the scoring in the inning with a solo home run to right for a 4-0 lead.

The Rattlers added to their lead with an eight-run third inning. Mitchell started the festivities with a single. Thomas Dillard followed with a hot shot to first that eluded the first baseman for an error. Then, the ball was bobbled in right for another error to let Mitchell score and Dillard to take third. Cantrelle was next and he hit a home run to left-center. The Rattlers were up 7-0 and they weren’t done.

Je’Von Ward doubled and Carlos Rodríguez drew a walk to end the game for McCambley. Jake Walters entered the game from the Beloit bullpen and got the next two outs, but Hamilton extended the inning with an RBI single and a walk to Howell loaded the bases.

That brought Mitchell back to the plate for the second time in the inning. He got all of a 2-1 pitch from Walters and the ball sailed far over the wall in center for a grand slam to push Wisconsin out to a 12-0 lead.

Beloit (26-28) got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI double by Tevin Mitchell. They added three more runs to their total in the fourth inning. David Martinez had a sacrifice fly, Mitchell added a sacrifice fly, and Ynmanol Marinez knocked in a run with a grounder.

Hamilton made it a luck thirteen runs for the Timber Rattlers with an RBI single to score Chad McClanahan in the top of the fifth inning.

The Snappers scored again in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Bubba Hollins.

Wisconsin scored three more times on three more hits in the top of the ninth inning to set new season highs in both categories. McClanahan reached on an error and would score later in the inning on a fielder’s choice by Howell. Mitchell kept the inning going with an infield single, his fourth hit of the game. A walk to Dillard loaded the bases. Cantrelle made it a sweet sixteen on the scoreboard with a two-run single.

Beloit got a run in the bottom of the ninth, but there was no more in them on this day.

Hamilton went 4-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored. Cantrelle had two homers, three hits, and five RBI. Je’Von Ward had three hits. LG Castillo had a double to extend his current hitting streak to ten games.

The Rattlers set new season highs for runs (16), hits (18), doubles (6), and homers (4) in a single game this season with their performance on Sunday.

The reason this was Wisconsin’s final appearance at Pohlman Field is that the Snappers are moving into ABC Supply Stadium in August. Wisconsin’s next trip to Beloit against the Snappers starts on August 3, which coincides with the opening of the new ballpark.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday. They will be back in action on Tuesday when they return home to host the Quad Cities River Bandits in the first game of a six-game series. Victor Castañeda (1-2, 4.59) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Zach Haake (4-1, 3.83) has been announced as the starting pitcher for the River Bandits. Game time is 7:05pm.

The Timber Rattlers are celebrating Video Game Night on Tuesday with arcade, console, and virtual reality games available to play for fans at the ballpark. One lucky fan will go home with the PS5!
