SPRINGFIELD, MO - Rehabbing St. Louis Cardinal Jake Woodford fired five scoreless innings while Chandler Redmond blasted three solo home runs as Springfield dispatched Corpus Christi, 4-2, Wednesday night at Hammons Field.
Redmond, who leads the Texas League with 27 homers, had not gone deep in more than a month, a stretch of 30 games. While going 3-for-3 on the day, his dingers in the third and fifth were lead-off shots. Redmond's seventh-inning salvo came with two outs. All of this production came out of the eight-hole for Springfield.
Woodford, nursing a right shoulder strain, retired 15 of 16 batters faced, striking out six. The lone Hook to reach was Garrett Wolforth, who stroked a single to center with two outs in the third.
Woodford outdueled Angel Macuare, who authored his first quality start of the year. Macuare struck out three and did not issue a walk, while scattering five hits over six innings pitched.
C.J. Stubbs greeted Connor Lunn with a lead-off home run in the sixth inning. Stubbs, who doubled twice and drove in three runs on Tuesday, has 11 home runs on the season.
Corpus Christi's final marker came in the eighth, with J.C. Correa cracking an inning-opening single. Two outs later, Will Wagner knocked him home with a base hit into right field.
