FREDERICKSBURG, VA - FredNat starting pitcher Luke Young was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 29-September 3, Major League Baseball Announced today. Young becomes the first FredNat pitcher to win the award this year, and the fourth FredNat to win a weekly award in the past six weeks.
Young turned in the best start of the season for the FredNats on Saturday night in a win against the Lynchburg Hillcats, pitching seven innings of one-run ball (the run was unearned) with nine strikeouts. The start was the longest of the year for any FredNat pitcher.
Young, the 21-year-old from San Angelo, TX and the Nationals' 11th round draft pick in 2022 from Midland Junior College, has been the most consistent pitcher for the FredNats in the second half of the season.

The FredNats will travel to Salisbury, MD to take on the Delmarva Shorebirds in the final series of the season, which begins on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
