Clay Holmes (2-2), Tanner Anderson and Josh Smoker combined on the gem, lifting the Indians to a win in the rubber match of the three-game set. Holmes struck out seven over six innings to earn the victory, as Norfolk was shutout for just the second time this season.
The game was scoreless through five innings before the Indians broke through with a run in the sixth off of Jason Gurka (1-2). Austin Meadows hit a one-out single, then came around to score on a double to center field off the bat of Jordan Luplow. The Tribe then broke the game open in the eighth inning, plating four runs off of Jhan Mariñez before scoring another run in the ninth off of position player Sharlon Schoop.
Norfolk starter Jimmy Yacabonis did not factor in the decision after working four scoreless innings. Making his first appearance since he was optioned from Baltimore over the weekend, Yacabonis yielded four hits and a walk while striking out three. He threw 39 of his 63 pitches for strikes and worked around a 33-minute rain delay in the top of the fourth inning.
Drew Dosch doubled to help pace Norfolk's offense, extending his on-base streak to 10 consecutive games. Dosch, who led the International League with 36 doubles a season ago, already has 10 doubles through 22 games this season.
The Tides will continue their homestand on Friday night when they welcome the Louisville Bats to Harbor Park for the start of a three-game set. Tim Melville (5-0, 2.97) is set to start for the Tides and will be opposed by right-hander Robert Stephenson (2-4, 3.93), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05.
Notes: Prior to Thursday's game, outfielder D'Arby Myers was transferred to Norfolk from Double-A Bowie. Myers grounded out as a pinch-hitter to end the contest…During Thursday's game, the Orioles announced that they had recalled catcher Andrew Susac from Norfolk and optioned catcher Caleb Joseph to the Tides…The loss was just the second home series setback for the Tides this season…Sharlon Schoop's pitching performance was his second career stint on the mound. He also pitched an inning for the Tides on 7/11/15.
