Hunter Yaworski (Brooklyn, CT/Mitchell College) and David Driscoll (Hingham, MA/Williams College) were both named recipients of two post-season awards in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. Both were presented their awards by FCBL Commissioner Joe Paolucci before the final home game of the year Thursday night at Dodd Stadium.
Yaworski won the Adam Keenan Sportsmanship and Scholarship Award, presented annually to the Futures League player who exemplifies the outstanding attitude, character, and sportsmanship that is synonymous with Adam Keenan’s legacy. Adam Keenan was a baseball player at both Franklin Pierce and UMass-Lowell who also played in the FCBL for the former Seacoast Mavericks. He was an amazing individual who exhibited sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and passion for the game of baseball. Adam passed away suddenly on June 6, 2011 of a rare, undiagnosed heart condition and his legacy lives on through this award.
Yaworski has been the model of consistency all summer by appearing in 54 games and delivering 54 hits, both second in the FCBL. As an FCBL All-Star this year, Yaworski led the team in several categories all summer. He currently is ninth in the league with a .293 average and tied for fifth with 12 doubles - leading the Sea Unicorns in each of these categories as well as in RBI (26). He carried over incredibly consistent play from his spring season at Mitchell College, where he hit an NECC best .457 with eight home runs, 39 RBI, 37 hits, and 28 runs in earning All-American D3, All-New England First Team, and All-NECC First Team honors for the NECC Champion Mariners. He also succeeded in the classroom as a student-athlete, earning Commendable Scholar recognition by posting a GPA between 3.0-3.49.
Off the field, Manger Devin Belensky says of him, "Hunter is an amazing individual who exemplifies attitude, character, and sportsmanship each and every day. The value that Hunter brings to our team on and off the field is unmatched.”
Driscoll won the Christopher J. Hall Commissioner’s Award, presented by Commissioner Paolucci to the Futures League player who best demonstrates his commitment to the team and to the game of Baseball. The FCBL says of Driscoll, “David is a person of high moral character and has worked extremely hard this season through injuries to be a great teammate for the Sea Unicorns. Commissioner Paolucci is proud to have him be part of the Futures League and to help continue to grow the league.”
