(Norwich, CT) -- The Sea Unicorns batted around twice in six innings and beat the Brockton Rox 12-0 in a rain-shortened game at Dodd Stadium on Thursday night.
The Sea Unicorns were hitting in the sixth when the skies opened, but not before knocking 14 hits around the yard early and often. Korey Morton (Norwalk, CT/University of Connecticut) went 4-4 with three runs and three RBI’s. Starting pitcher Jordan Marot (Johnston, RI/Franklin Pierce University) pitched six shutout innings with seven strikeouts and just two hits and one walk allowed to earn the complete game victory.
The Sea Unicorns jumped to an early lead as Josh Taylor (Newtown, CT/Central Connecticut State University) delivered Morton with an RBI single in his Sea Unicorns debut for a 1-0 lead in the first.
The Sea Unicorns then exploded in the second, with the first eight batter reaching base including seven hits in a row for a seven-run inning. T.J. Keefe (Weymouth, MA/Pace University) drove in Jared Zimbardo (Middlesex, NJ/Quinnipiac University) with an RBI double to left to extend the lead to 2-0. Leo Dionicio (West Hartford, CT/University of Dayton) knocked in Keefe with a single to center giving the Sea Unicorns a 3-0 lead. Morton drove in Dionicio with an infield single into the left-side hole, extending the lead to 4-0. Hunter Yaworski (Brooklyn, CT/Mitchell College) broke the game wide openwith a two-run double to right-centerfield that put Norwich up 6-0. Tyler Wells (Danville, VT/University of New Haven) ripped a single into right-center field that scored Yaworski making it 7-0. Zimbardo capped the second inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Taylor for an 8-0 lead.
The Sea Unicorns piled on more with a four-run fifth inning. Morton crushed a two-run double that scored Keefe and Dionicio, extending the Sea Unicorns lead to 10-0. Yaworski made it 11-0 with a single to left that scored Torniero. Morton came around to score on a throwing error to close out the Sea Unicorns scoring.
The Sea Unicorns are back in action Friday, 7/30 as they host the Brockton Rox again at 7:00 pm. Following the game will be a Post-Game Fireworks Show presented by Liberty Bank.
