8-12-21 Sea Unicorns Drop Doubleheader to Starfires in Last Home Games of Season

(Norwich, CT) -- The Norwich Sea Unicorns fell to the Westfield Starfires in a doubleheader at Dodd Stadium 7-5 and 10-5 to conclude the home schedule on Thursday night. (Norwich, CT) -- The Norwich Sea Unicorns fell to the Westfield Starfires in a doubleheader at Dodd Stadium 7-5 and 10-5 to conclude the home schedule on Thursday night.

Trailing 7-0 in the fifth, Norwich scored five unanswered runs to cut their deficit to two runs. Korey Morton (Norwalk, CT/UConn) hit a solo home run in the seventh for his fourth of the summer to tie for the team lead.

Leo Dionicio (West Hartford, CT/Dayton) ripped a base hit to left to score David Driscoll (Hingham, MA/Williams College) when the ball skipped to the wall for a two-base error, putting Norwich on the board. Michael Torniero (East Haven, CT/Central CT State University) drove in the second run with an RBI groundout. Gianni Zarrilli (Wethersfield, CT/UMass Boston) highlighted a two-run sixth with an RBI single

Griffin Pontbriant (Uncasville, CT/Central CT State University) pitched 2.2 innings of shutout relief, striking out the first four batters he faced.

In game two of the doubleheader, Torniero, Dionicio, and Tyler Wells (Danville VT/University of New Haven) each had two hits, while Driscoll drove in two runs. Hunter Yaworski (Brooklyn, CT/Mitchell College) had one of the five Norwich hits, and now has hits in eight of his last nine games. On the mound, Vincenzo Camera (East Haven, CT/Westfield State University) struck out the side in a scoreless inning of relief.

The Sea Unicorns conclude the 2021 season on the road against the Starfires Friday, August 13 at 6:30 pm.
