Bryce Madron isn’t a stranger to putting his head down and getting it done. The 23-year-old Oklahoma native is coming into his professional baseball career with an exciting resume and rock solid work ethic.

First, some back story: Madron grew up a car ride away from the University of Oklahoma. The school always stayed on his radar, but he was often overlooked from offers due to something he couldn’t control: his height. However, this never stopped him from achieving his goals.

“I’ve always been that guy that’s worked hard,” Madron said. “People look at that and say hey, he might be a shorter guy, but he works hard.”

While this may be something that would deter someone from pursuing their dreams, it only motivated Bryce to work even harder. He ended up getting an offer from Cowley College, a junior college in Kansas, which became a formative part of his baseball career. It was here that his work ethic truly began to evolve.

“In high school, I was never really the guy that would lift weights,” Madron said. “But in junior college you have to. Ever since then, that’s been something that helps me.”

After two years at Cowley, Madron ended up getting the chance to transfer to the University of Oklahoma. But before he could begin that journey, he spent a summer with the Savannah Bananas. This gave Madron a chance to continue to develop his skills over the summer before he went to Oklahoma, but also taught him a very important lesson: don’t take it so seriously.

“High school and junior college were all about pursuing baseball at a higher level,” Madron said. “But going [to the Bananas], I could just have fun. Everyone had fun there.”

Madron looks back at his development journey fondly, but knows he still has time to grow as a player within the Cardinals organization. When asked what advice he would give to others that were in his position several years ago, he said this:

“Always work hard. There’s nothing they can take away from you if you just work hard.”

A simple, yet powerful statement that shows what Madron is made of. He hasn’t shied away from the work, and he doesn’t plan on it any time soon.
