JUPITER, FL – The Palm Beach Cardinals (67-41, 30-12) became the first Florida State League team with 30 wins in the second half of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads (57-51, 21-21) on Wednesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. In the regular season “Dual of the Dean” series, the Beach Birds improve to 11-6 over the Sharks.

Sem Robberse tossed a scoreless top of the first inning with just one hit allowed and recorded one strikeout as part of a minor league rehab appearance from Triple-A Memphis. Eliazar Dishmey (L, 4-4) got the start for the Hammerheads on the mound as Hunter Kublick (W, 4-2) came out of the Cardinals’ bullpen in long relief.

The game was a pitchers’ duel until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Cardinals got on the scoreboard first. After Josh Kross drew a one-walk, Jose Cordoba smacked an RBI double down the left field line to give Palm Beach an early 1-0 lead.

After a scoreless fifth and top of the sixth innings, the Cardinals added to their lead. With two outs, Kross reached on a fielding error by Yiddi Cappe. Then, Cordoba hit another RBI double down into the left field corner to extend the Palm Beach lead to 2-0.

Jupiter got on the scoreboard for the first time in the top of the seventh inning as Kublick went back out on the mound. Jacob Jenkins-Cowart drew a leadoff walk and after a steal and a wild pitch, Fenwick Trimble hit an RBI single to cut the Cardinals’ lead to 2-1.

However, Palm Beach responded and got the run back in the bottom of the frame. With Jupiter relief pitcher Chase Centala making his professional debut, Christian Martin and Lizandro Espinoza drew back-to-back walks to start the inning. Two batters later after a double play, Ryan Campos hit an RBI single to score Martin to put the Cardinals on top by a 3-1 score.

Luis Gastelum (H, 4) and Henry Gomez (Sv, 11) combined for three scoreless innings and six strikeouts as the Hammerheads had no more answers on offense as Palm Beach secured the 3-1 victory on Wednesday night to even the series.

Kublick matched a season-high five innings pitched and allowed just one run on five hits while striking out six batters. Campos finished 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate.

Tonight marked the final “Hope At-Bat” night, an initiative between Minor League Baseball and the American Cancer Society, as part of “Give Every Child a Chance to Run.” For every run scored across MiLB, 15 dollars will be donated from MiLB to the American Cancer Society for every run scored, with 60 dollars coming because of this game. Donations to the American Cancer Society are accepted here.

The “Dual of the Dean” series continues between Jupiter and Palm Beach on Thursday, August 15th for another edition of “Thirsty Thursdays” with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Click here to purchase your tickets.
