Cardinals Fall to Blue Jays 3-1 on Saturday Night

JUITER, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (32-24) dropped their second-straight game to the Dunedin Blue Jays (28-28) by a final score of 3-1 on Saturday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. JUITER, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (32-24) dropped their second-straight game to the Dunedin Blue Jays (28-28) by a final score of 3-1 on Saturday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. With the Cardinals' and the Jupiter Hammerheads defeating Lakeland on Saturday, Palm Beach leads the FSL East Division by just one game.

After two scoreless innings from Palm Beach starting pitcher Chen-Wei Lin (L, 3-4), the Cardinals were the ones that got the first run of the game. In the bottom of the second inning, Brayden Jobert drew a two-out walk and advanced to second base on a balk called against Dunedin starting pitcher Nolan Perry. Johnfrank Salazar would smack a double to left-center field to give the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead.

However, Lin would run into a jam in the top of the third inning. Lin would load the bases thanks to two hits and a hit-by-pitch. With two outs, Kekai Rios would clear the bases with a three-RBI double to give Dunedin the lead at 3-1.

After the third inning, the offenses were shut down. The Dunedin pitching trio of Irv Carter (W, 4-1), TJ Brock (H, 1) and Felipe Bello (Sv, 2) would combine for six scoreless innings in relief. The Cardinals recorded just four more hits in the ballgame, three of which came off the bat of Miguel Villarroel, but the Cardinals could not come back in the game as they drop the Saturday contest 3-1 to the Blue Jays.

Palm Beach relief pitchers Benjamin Arias and Angel Cuenca combined to throw four scoreless innings out of the bullpen with five strikeouts in the loss.

The 12-game homestand will come to a close as the Cardinals look to earn a series split in the series finale on Sunday, June 9th with first pitch scheduled for noon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
