JUPITER, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (49-35, 12-6) earned their league-leading 11th shutout of the season with a 4-0 victory over the Clearwater Threshers (49-36, 6-13) on Friday afternoon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. It is the second shutout of the series for the Cardinals after defeating the Threshers 2-0 in game one of the series. Palm Beach takes a 3-1 series lead and will look for their 10th series win of the season.

The game started as a pitchers' duel between Palm Beach starting pitcher Jose Davila (W, 3-5) and Clearwater starter Wen-Hui Pan (L, 0-1) who was here on a minor league rehab appearance from High-A Jersey Shore.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Cardinals' offense started to figure out Pan. With one out, Sammy Hernandez hit a double and Chase Adkison drove in Hernandez on an RBI single to put the Cardinals on the scoreboard first. After Kade Kretzschmar hit a single to put two runners on, Anyelo Encarnacion hit a two-RBI double to right field to pad the lead. Ross Friedrick capped off the scoring in the inning with an RBI double to left field to score Encarnacion and Palm Beach jumped out to a 4-0 lead.

That was all the run support for Davila who didn't allow a hit until the top of the sixth inning with two outs. Davila finished his start matching a season-high seven innings and also struck out 12 batters to match a career-high (August 10, 2023 at St. Lucie). Hunter Hayes came out of the Palm Beach bullpen and tossed the final two innings and kept the Threshers off the scoreboard to secure the 4-0 shutout victory Friday afternoon.

For Davila, it is his first win since May 11th against the Jupiter Hammerheads when he tossed six scoreless innings in a 2-0 shutout win. Friedrick, Encarnacion, and Hernandez each had two hits in the game to lead the offensive charge for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals will look for their 50th win of the season and the series victory against the Threshers on Saturday, July 13th on "County Fair Night" presented by Cracker Barrel. Chen-Wei Lin (5-4, 3.13 ERA) is scheduled to make the start on the mound for Palm Beach. Click here to get your tickets and enjoy a day at the fair and at the ballpark.
