Palm Beach Drops Series Finale to St. Lucie in 5-1 Loss Sunday Afternoon

Chase Davis' solo home run provides only scoring for Cardinals

JUPITER, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (41-33, 4-4) record just three hits on Sunday afternoon against the St. Lucie Mets (25-50, 3-6) and drop the series finale by a final score of 5-1 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Palm Beach and St. Lucie split the series as the Cardinals

JUPITER, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (41-33, 4-4) record just three hits on Sunday afternoon against the St. Lucie Mets (25-50, 3-6) and drop the series finale by a final score of 5-1 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Palm Beach and St. Lucie split the series as the Cardinals finish the month of June with a record of 12-13.

After two scoreless innings to begin the ballgame, the Mets' offense got to work in a big way in the top of the third inning off of Palm Beach starting pitcher Hunter Kublick (L, 1-2). St. Lucie would send nine men to the plate thanks to three hits and three walks, including a two-RBI single from Estarling Mercado and a RBI double by Yohario Cuevas, and jump out to take a 5-0 lead.

Kublick tossed just two-plus innings with five earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out four batters.

St. Lucie starting pitcher Joel Diaz (W, 1-2) kept the Palm Beach offense scoreless and hitless until the top of the fourth inning when Chase Davis hit his seventh home run of the season, a solo home run to right field, to cut the deficit to just 5-1.

After the fourth inning, both offenses were kept in check. The Mets would only have one hit from the fifth inning until the end of the game and the Cardinals were held to three hits total and St. Lucie held on to defeat Palm Beach by a 5-1 final score.

Diaz finished with a career-high 5 1/3 innings pitched and just one earned run and two hits allowed. For Palm Beach, Hunter Hayes came out of the bullpen and tossed a career-high five scoreless innings and allowed just one hit and struck out three batters. Angel Cuenca and Ettore Giulianelli each tossed a scoreless inning out of the Cardinals' bullpen.

The Cardinals are back in action on Monday, July 1st when they will be the visiting team against the Jupiter Hammerheads for the start of six games. First pitch for Monday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Palm Beach will be the road team for the first three games of the series Monday, July 1st through Wednesday, July 3rd and then take over as the home team from Thursday, July 4th through Saturday, July 6th.
