Palm Beach falls in heartbreaking fashion to Florida

After a rain-soaked night, Palm Beach found itself up 6-5 through 8 2/3 innings and just one out away from its 47th victory of the season. However, after a walk, Florida's Brett Cumberland hit a two run, go-ahead homer that gave the Fire Frogs a 7-5 lead. It was the fourth and final lead change of the game as the Cardinals could not even the score up in the bottom half. 
Rain began to fell in the second inning with the persistent precipitiation lasting throughout the entire game, and night. 
Palm Beach took a 1-0 lead on a Brian O'Keefe RBI single. They doubled the lead in the third with Andy Young's RBI single. 
Despite the one run, the Cardinals left two runners on base -- it was one of three innings that Palm Beach left at least two men on. As a team, they went 4-16 with runners in scoring position. 
After throwing three scoreless innings to begin the game, Casey Meisner allowed a game-tying two-run homer. He went five innings, allowed three total runs on five hits and struck out eight. 
The Cardinals took the lead once again in their half of the fourth, capitalizing on an RBI singles from Danny Hudzina and a double-play ball that plated Stefan Trosclair.
With solo runs in the fifth, and then the sixth, Florida had once again tied the game up, this time at four.
And once again, Palm Beach retook the lead in the seventh thanks to a Dylan Carlson RBI single. 
However, it was not enough. 
The two-run homer given up by Robbie Gordon was the only hit he allowed in two innings pitched. 
Jacob Patterson also pitched two innings and allowed a lone run on two hits and a walk while striking out two.
The teams will play game two of a three game series on Saturday at 5:30 PM. There will be a special Suds in Suites promotion on Saturday as fans who purchase a special $25 ticket can enjoy a two-hour craft beer tasting in one of the luxury suites. The $25 price includes a ticket to the game.
