The Palm Beach Cardinals (14-10) fell to the Daytona Tortugas (15-9) by a final score of 4-2 on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. With the loss, the Cardinals have extended their losing streak to three games, the longest in 2024, and ensured that they will not be able to win the series this week.

Daytona got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning. After back-to-back one-out walks issued by Cardinals starting pitcher Jason Savacool (L, 1-1), Ariel Almonte launched his eighth home run of the season driving in three runs to make it a 3-0 Daytona lead. The Tortugas would add an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning in a double-steal play which extended their lead to 4-0.

Palm Beach needed a response and they got one in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Chase Davis drew a walk with one out, Johnfrank Salazar drove in Davis on an RBI double to get the first run across for the Cardinals. The very next batter Lizandro Espinoza drove in Salazar with an RBI single to make it a 4-2 deficit. It was the first two runs allowed by Daytona starter Adam Serwinowski (W, 1-0) all season long.

After the fourth inning, there were no runs scored by either team as Ixan Henderson and Randel Clemente kept the Tortugas in check offensively out of the Palm Beach bullpen and Nestor Lorant (Sv, 2) shutout the Cardinals with four scoreless innings and recorded the save to seal the 4-2 defeat of Palm Beach.

Henderson and Clemente combined for four scoreless innings in relief. Salazar finished 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI double and a run scored to lead all Palm Beach hitters.

Game four of the series between Palm Beach and Daytona takes place on Friday, May 3rd with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Reigning Florida State League Pitcher of the Week Quinn Mathews (2-0, 0.50 ERA) will make the start on the mound for Palm Beach against Ben Brutti for Daytona. Click here to purchase your tickets.
