Chiefs Fall 10-6 Tuesday

Burlington, IA - The Peoria Chiefs gave up five runs in the fourth inning and their late rally fell short in a 10-6 loss to the Burlington Bees (3-10, 33-49) Tuesday night. The loss drops the Chiefs to 7-5 in the second half and 46-36 overall.

The Chiefs scored in the first inning for the second game in a row. Irving Lopez reached on a dropped fly ball by Spencer Griffin and moved to second on an throwing error by the Bees catcher. With two down in the inning Julio Rodriguez ripped a single to left off Jose Soriano to put the Chiefs on top 1-0.
    Burlington tied the game in the second against Chiefs starter Johan Oviedo and took a 2-1 lead on a bases loaded walk in the third inning. The Bees broke the game open in the fourth with a five-run frame as Franklin Torres cleared the bases with a triple to center. Patrick Dayton took over on the mound and allowed an inherited runner to score as Burlington took a 7-1 lead. The hosts added two more against Dayton in the fifth, the first runs the lefty has allowed in a Chiefs uniform.
    Down 9-1, Bryce Denton slammed a home run off James Ziemba in the seventh inning. The blast to left, his fifth of the season is the third for Denton since the All-Star break.
    The Chiefs grabbed two more runs off Ziemba in the eighth inning after loading the bases with no outs. The Bees turned two on a grounder from Elehuris Montero as Rayder Ascanio scored. Rodriguez picked up his second RBI single of the game as he drove in Nick Plummer to cut the Bees lead to 10-4.
    Peoria added two more in the ninth but their rally stopped there. Denton reached on an infield single and moved to second as Alexis Wilson walked. Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch and Ascanio picked up his first RBI of the season as he beat out a grounder to third while Denton scored. Montero capped the scoring for the game was he singled home Wilson for his 49^th RBI of the season and a 10-6 final score.
     Oviedo (3-7) took the loss as he allowed seven runs on eight hits over 3 1/3 innings. The righty walked five, struck out four and threw a wild pitch. Dayton allowed two runs on four hits over 2 1/3 innings while walking two and striking out six. Zach Prendergast allowed one run on three hits over 2 1/3 innings while walking two and striking out three.
