Dahlberg Tosses CGSHO to Beat Clinton

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs defeated the Clinton LumberKings 4-0 on Monday night behind Jake Dahlberg's complete game shutout. The Chiefs improved to 30-18 in the second half and 69-49 overall as the series concludes 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs defeated the Clinton LumberKings 4-0 on Monday night behind Jake Dahlberg's complete game shutout. The Chiefs improved to 30-18 in the second half and 69-49 overall as the series concludes 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

    The Chiefs pieced together a two-out rally in the bottom of the third to get on the board fagainst LumberKings starter Scott Boches. Rayder Ascanio smacked a two-out double off the wall in left and JR Davis brought him home on a double to right for a 1-0 lead. Nolan Gorman placed a single down the right field to score Davis as the margin increased to 2-0. Davis left the game with an undisclosed injury following the inning.
    Peoria tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth against Randy Bell. Luken Baker lined a double to the left field corner and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Julio Rodriguez grounded a single up the middle to plate Baker for a 3-0 advantage.
    One more insurance run came across for the Chiefs in the bottom of the seventh. Ascanio drew a walk after 17 pitches and advanced to second on a passed ball. Zach Kirtley grounded out to move Ascanio to third and Gorman brought him home on a sacrifice fly to center as the Chiefs controlled the game 4-0.
    Dahlberg (2-1) earned the win as he tossed a complete game shutout allowing eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts. He threw 104 pitches with 79 strikes and only allowed one runner past second base for the game.
Notes… Dahlberg pitched his first professional complete game shutout and is the first Chiefs pitcher since Paul Balestrieri on June 7 to do so...While Balestrieri threw a complete game shutout for his June 7 no-hitter, the last Chiefs complete game shutout by a lefty was July 4, 2011 when Austin Kirk no-hit Clinton 2-0…Gorman has hit safely in four straight games...Benson had his eight-game hit streak end...Myers has hit in every spot in the lineup except for eighth or ninth...He is the fourth different player to bat third in the six games since Elehuris Montero was promoted...Davis left the game in the top of the fourth due to an injury as Plummer shifted to play center field, Gonzalez moved to left field and Kirtley entered the game to play first base...The Chiefs are 59-3 when taking the lead into the ninth inning...Peoria is 9-5 against the LumberKings this season with one game left and have already clinched the season series...The Chiefs have seven shutout wins this season...Clinton out-hit Peoria 8-7...The series concludes on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. against Clinton...The Chiefs will start RH Johan Oviedo (9-7, 4.53) against Clinton RH Tyler Jackson (1-2, 6.46)…The broadcast can be heard, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:45 p.m. on www.peoriachiefs.com/listenlive and is also available on the Peoria Chiefs Network in the Tune-In Radio App…The game is also available to subscribers on MiLB.TV
