Shawn Thornton Appearing at Hadlock on Tuesday

Portland, Maine- Former Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton will make an appearance at Hadlock Field on Tuesday, August 26th when the Portland Sea Dogs take on the Reading Fightin Phils at 7:00 PM. Thornton's appearance at Hadlock Field is presented by the Asylum Sports Bar and Grill, located at 121 Center Street in downtown Portland.

Thornton will throw out the ceremonial first-pitch and will be available to sign free autographs for fans from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.

Thornton spent the past seven seasons with the Boston Bruins. He signed with the Florida Panthers on July 1, 2014 after not being re-signed by the Bruins. Thornton was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 7th round (190th overall) of the 1997 NHL draft and was signed by the Boston Bruins as a free agent prior to the 2007-08 season. During the 2011-2012 season in Boston, he set career-highs in points scored (20), goals (10), and assists (10) and helped the team win its first Stanley Cup title in 39 years. Before he joined the Bruins, Thornton spent 2006-07 season with the Anaheim Ducks, where he earned his first Stanley Cup. During the same campaign, he played in 15 games with the Portland Pirates; the Ducks' AHL affiliate. In 559 career NHL regular season games, Thornton has notched 38 goals and 50 assists.

This marks Thornton's second appearance at Hadlock Field, as he previously made an appearance on June 30, 2012. Other New England athletes who have made recent appearances at Hadlock Field include; Rob Gronkowski (2011), Patrick Chung (2012), Daniel Paille (2013), Rob Ninkovich (2013), Trot Nixon (2014) and Shane Vereen (2014).  

Boston Celtics' first round draft pick Marcus Smart is scheduled to make an appearance on Saturday, August 30th.
