Pagan, 25, began the season with the Tacoma Rainiers, the Triple-A affiliate in the Mariners organization. The South Carolina native earned the promotion to the Major Leagues by posting a 3.27 ERA over his 11 innings of work, in six relief appearances, while walking seven, and striking out 18. Pagan is coming off the best season of his professional career. In 2016, he went 5-3 with a 2.49 ERA splitting time between the Double-A Jackson Generals and Triple-A Rainiers. Once Pagan makes his MLB debut he will have pitched at every stop in the Mariners organization except for the Arizona League Mariners.
The Mariners selected Pagan during in the 10th round of the 2013 draft out of Belmont Abbey College. During his only season in Clinton, 2014, he went 2-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 42 relief appearances, walking 14, and striking out 62. Pagan was the de facto closer for the 2014 LumberKings leading the team in saves with 16, 12 more than the nearest LumberKings pitcher.
