Anderson, Guerrero Selected for Futures Game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp third baseman Brian Anderson and right-handed relief pitcher Tayron Guerrero have been selected to play in the 2017 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday July 9 at 4 p.m. at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida.

Anderson will be a member of the U.S. Team, while Guerrero, a native of Bocachica, Colombia, will be a member of the World Team, and the two are the only representatives for the Marlins at the game in their home ballpark.
Anderson is hitting .259 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI in 75 games played for Jacksonville this season. Anderson leads the Southern League in games played (75), fourth in the league with 42 RBI, second in the league in runs scored (47), and his 11 home runs are tied with John Norwood for the Jacksonville club lead.
Earlier this season Anderson was recognized as a 2017 Southern League Midseason All-Star, and has been an All-Star three years in a row after being a Florida State League Midseason All-Star in 2015 and 2016. Anderson, 24, is the Marlins No. 3 prospect for 2017 according to MLB.com, and in 2016 was the Marlins Minor League Player of the Year for his work at Jupiter and Jacksonville. Anderson continued his success in the prestigious Arizona Fall League, where he was named a Rising Star and a part of the All-Prospect Team. Anderson was selected by the Marlins in the third round of the 2014 draft out of the University of Arkansas, and he is a native of Edmond, Oklahoma.
Guerrero is 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA in 13 relief outings with the Jumbo Shrimp this season, and has a 3.86 ERA with 11 strikeouts in his seven June outings. Guerrero, 26, pitched on the world stage this spring while pitching for Colombia in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, and is a member of the Marlins 40-man roster. Guerrero is listed by Baseball America as the Marlins No. 16 prospect entering 2017, and he was acquired by Miami in a trade with the San Diego Padres in July 2016. Guerrero has pitched in one games in the major leagues, pitching for the Padres on May 17, 2016 where he worked two innings, allowing a pair of runs against the San Francisco Giants as he took the loss.
The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which is now in its 19th year, features the top Minor League prospects competing in a nine-inning contest as part of All-Star Sunday. The U.S. Team leads the all-time series, 11-7. Last year in San Diego, the World Team defeated the U.S., 11-3, snapping a six-game U.S. winning streak.
Major League Baseball, in conjunction with MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible to be selected. The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game will last nine innings, and in the event of a tie, a 10th inning will be played. The game will not go longer than 10 innings, regardless of the score. Players and coaches will be outfitted in special SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game caps and jerseys.

The Jumbo Shrimp continue their series with Mobile at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, when Jacksonville right-hander Trevor Richards (1-0) is scheduled to face BayBears right-hander Jaime Barria (1-1). Gates open at 6 p.m. for Military Appreciation Night presented by Navy Federal Credit Union, when veterans, active, retired and former military and their dependents receive free general admission or reserved tickets. All attendees with the military member must be present, and the member show an active military or veteran ID, at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville box office to receive free tickets On Mavericks Live and Budweiser Thirst Thursday, fans can purchase $1 12-oz. and $2 24-oz. beers adjacent to the new Budweiser Tiki Terrace, on the left-field berm, at two locations on the right-field bleachers, and at the Oasis concession stand behind section 115. The game is also presented by 95.1 WAPE and X102.9.
