SALEM, Virginia (August 26, 2019) - The Carolina League has announced the Players of the Week for August 18th-24th. Right handed pitcher Andrew "AJ" Politi left no doubt for the Pitcher of the Week title after two no-hit starts.
Politi has stepped into a starting role mid-season for Corey Wimberly's club after all-relief appearances through his first two seasons as a professional. Against Wilmington August 21st, the right-hander tossed four hitless innings and struck out five Blue Rocks en route to a no-decision. Salem took a 3-1 win in seven innings. AJ then took the hill at home against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and delivered a five inning no-hit performance with another five strikeouts en route to the club's 3-2 walk-off win.
AJ was a 2018 15th-round selection for Boston out of Seton Hall. He has pitched to a combined 5-2 record and 3.51 ERA through 32 appearances and four starts.
The selection is the seventh League honor of the season for the Salem Red Sox. Politi joins Enmanuel DeJesus as the second pitcher to receive the weekly honor.
The Salem Red Sox are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and call Haley Toyota Field in Salem, Virginia home.
