Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that they have signed LHP Anthony Marzi and assigned him to the Kernels and INF Ariel Montesino has been assigned to Elizabethton (APPY). Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the moves.
Marzi was originally signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent in 2015 out of the University of Connecticut. He made six relief appearances for the GCL Yankees in 2015, posting a 2-0 record, no ERA and one save in 7.1 IP. He most recently pitched for the New Britain Bees of the Atlantic League (IND), where he posted a 5-5 record and 2.84 ERA in 12 starts. In 69.2 IP, he allowed 72 hits and 26 runs (22 earned) with 21 walks and 46 strikeouts.
Montesino was part of the Kernels 2017 Opening Day roster and has played in 45 games for the Kernels, batting .185 with seven doubles and 5 RBI. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Twins in 2013.

Marzi is active and available for tonight's 6:30 PM game at Clinton. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with four players currently on the DL.
The Kernels begin a four game commuter series tonight at Clinton with first pitch set for 6:30 PM. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, July 4th and open a seven game home series against Wisconsin and Peoria that continues through Monday, June 10th.
