KODAK, Tenn. (July 15, 2017) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced Saturday that infielder David Fletcher has been promoted from the Mobile BayBears to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Fletcher, 23, was a member of the BayBears Opening Day roster and played in 64 games. He posted a .276 average with one home run, 22 RBI, 14 doubles, and 12 stolen bases. In May, Fletcher was named the Angels Minor League Defender of the Month. He committed just one error in 243 total chances with the BayBears, splitting time between second base and shortstop.
The Orange, Calif., native was selected by the Angels in the sixth round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Loyola Marymount University. Fletcher was named a MiLB.com Angels Organization All-Star in each of his first two professional seasons.
In 2015, Fletcher hit .311 in 69 games combined between Rookie-level Orem and Class A Burlington. The following year, he spent the majority of the season with Class A Advanced Inland Empire before earning a promotion to Arkansas on August 16. Fletcher had 24 hits in 80 Double-A at-bats to finish the 2016 season.
This is the first time Fletcher has been promoted to Triple-A in his career. He is currently the No. 9 prospect in the Angels organization, according to MLB Pipeline.
In a corresponding move, Jose Rojas has been added to the BayBears roster from Inland Empire. The infielder has hit safely in 23 straight games, the third-longest streak in the Angels farm system since 2009.
Rojas, 24, has a career .314 average with 12 home runs and 81 RBI in 138 games combined between Orem (2016) and Inland Empire (2017), and he was a 2017 California League Mid-Season All-Star. The Anaheim, Calif., native was selected by the Angels in the 36th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Vanguard University.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Tennessee Saturday at 6:00 p.m. CT.
