Fitzgerald has been a constant presence for Salem, actively leading in starts (118), RBI (62), hits (116), triples (7) and runs (59). The shortstop has held a .275 batting average and .984 fielding percentage across four positions. The work also earned Fitzgerald a Carolina League mid-season All-Star selection.
Manager Corey Wimberly finds the success not a surprise, "Fitzy is a grinder, he's always going to come out and do whatever it takes and find whatever works to bring success. He takes no excuses and he is not a fan of off days. I think the guys all greatly benefit watching the ethic he brings to the field every day. He knows what it's like to be on the other side and he doesn't take a minute of this for granted but he also brings the energy every day and that's something you can't teach."
The former Gary SouthShore Railcat pushed his way into the Red Sox system after being named a 2017 American Association All-Star and Arizona Winter League Defensive Player of the Year. As a Creighton Bluejay, Fitzgerald earned second team All-Big East and hit for the cycle.
