MOBILE, Ala. (May 6, 2017) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have made a trade with the Baltimore Orioles involving Mobile BayBears right-handed pitcher
Kipper, 24, is in his second Double-A season and made five starts for the BayBears. He posted a 2-1 record with a 1.74 ERA (six earned runs in 31.0 innings pitched) with 18 strikeouts. Kipper led the pitching staff with four quality starts, including a pair of seven-inning scoreless starts to notch his two wins. Prior to giving up one run in the sixth inning of his last start Sunday at Jacksonville, Kipper had tossed a team-high 20 consecutive scoreless frames.
Last year with Double-A Arkansas, Kipper posted a 3.35 ERA and led the Travelers in wins (12), innings pitched (153.0), and complete games (2). He faced the minimum 27 batters in a no-hitter against Northwest Arkansas on May 17, allowing just one walk, and was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week. Kipper was also a Texas League Mid-Season and Post-Season All Star in 2016.
The Phoenix native was originally selected by the Angels in the ninth round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas Christian University.
Magnifico, 25, spent the month of April at the Triple-A level, splitting time between the Milwaukee Brewers and Orioles organizations. He was designated for assignment by Baltimore and traded to the Angels. Magnifico has been added to the Angels 40-man roster and optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake.
The Dallas native was selected by the Brewers in the fifth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Oklahoma. Magnifico made his Major League debut on August 16, 2016 and pitched in three games for Milwaukee.
