OGDEN, UT - Ogden Raptors infielder
Lao was in the lineup for all six games the Raptors played during the stretch, and he notched at least one hit in each of the final five. He turned in consecutive standout performances in the two wins at Grand Junction, going 3-for-4 with a run and RBI on August 21, and following that with a 4-for-6 day including two home runs, four RBI and four runs scored the next day. For the week, Lao hit .400 (10-for-25) with the pair of home runs, a double, six runs scored and seven RBI.
"We know what Lao's capable of, and felt it was just a matter of time," said Raptors manager Austin Chubb. "He's been putting good at-bats together, had some really good cage time with hitting coach Seth Conner and has been able to stay on pitches middle-away, so we think that has opened things up for him and he's been able to put together quality at-bat after quality at-bat."
"Lao has done a nice job of making some adjustments to his initial setup and in his swing, allowing him to pull the ball with more true spin, which he hasn't been able to do as much, so being able to use the left side of the diamond in the air is huge for him, because the power is definitely there," said Conner.
The honor for Lao marks the sixth in 2019 for a member of the Raptors, matching the most for Ogden in a single season going back to at least 2008; in 2010, the Raptors earned five Players of the Week and one Pitcher of the Week.
Ogden finishes their penultimate homestand of the 2019 with games against the Grand Junction Rockies Thursday and Friday, August 29 and 30.
