Luis Santana Wins South Atlantic League Player of the Month
ASHEVILLE- Minor League Baseball released their Player of the Month awards earlier today and Asheville’s Luis Santana has been named the South Atlantic League Player of the Month for the month of June. Santana is the first Tourists player this season to win the Player of the Month award.

In the month of June, Santana led the league in batting average (.417) by a wide margin. He was second in on-base percentage (.451), second in OPS (.1.046), third in hits (35), third in RBI (21), and finished fifth in doubles (seven).
Luis tallied at least one hit in 19 of the 21 games he played in during the month of June and recorded ten multi-hit games. Santana capped the month off with a 5-for-6 performance against Bowling Green to become the first Tourists player in 2022 to deliver a five-hit game.
Defensively, Santana put together a perfect fielding percentage in June. Luis did not commit a single error rotating between four defensive positions; first base, second base, third base, and right field. Santana did not DH one game in June.
On the season, Santana is now hitting .289 which ranks as the 12th best batting average in the SAL. Luis is the first Tourists player to win the Player of the Month award since Yainer Diaz took home the honor in September of 2021.
Santana was acquired by the Houston Astros in a trade with the New York Mets in January of 2019. The 22-year-old out of Bani, Dominican Republic is in his second season with the Tourists.
