Pair of Storm Players to Play in SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - For the first time since Tayron Guerrero represented the Padres in the 2014 All-Star Futures Game as a member of the Lake Elsinore Storm, the Storm eyes will be well represented in Miami for this year's SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, set to take place on Sunday, July 9^th at 4pm ET at Marlins Park.
Cal Quantrill, the Padres No. 2 ranked prospect, and Josh Naylor, the Padres No. 13 ranked prospect according to MLB.com, will play on the World roster in the prestigious game. Just last year, a pair of current San Diego Padres in Manuel Margot and Hunter Renfroe played in the contest.
"I'm really excited to get to go to Miami and get a little taste of the big leagues," Quantrill said. "It'll be fun to be there with some fellow Canadians, so I'm excited to represent my country and play on the World team."
Both Quantrill and Naylor represented Lake Elsinore in the recently played California League All-Star Game in Visalia, Calif. Quantrill, a 1^st-round pick by the Padres in the 2016 Draft, is 5-5 with a 3.59 ERA in 13 starts with Lake Elsinore. He has 72 strikeouts in 67.2 IP. Naylor is hitting .290 with seven home runs and 41 RBIs in 67 games for the Storm. He was a member of Canada's roster in the most recent World Baseball Classic.
"It's an honor to represent the Padres and Canada in the Futures Game, especially with my buddy Cal and I can't wait to play in the game," said Naylor.
Naylor, just 20-years-old, is from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, while Quantrill hails from Port Hope, Ontario, Canada. Quantrill's father, Paul, played in the Major Leagues for 14 seasons and wore the Padres uniform for part of the 2005 season.
Traveling to Miami to play in the 2017 All-Star Futures Game at Marlins Park will be somewhat of a homecoming for Naylor, who was a marlins draft selection in 2015 and was dealt to the Padres before the trade deadline last season. The trip to Miami will be a first for Quantrill.
"I've heard it's a fun city and I'm excited to spend a couple days there," said Quantrill.
The game will feature 27 players from MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list and will be broadcast live on MLB Network and streamed on MLB.com.
