Parsons, Acuna claim monthly honors

Acuna, 19, posted a .415 batting average with seven doubles, a triple, three homers and 15 RBI in 21 games during the month of May. He also stole 12 bases during that time frame. In 23 contests since joining the Double-A Braves on May 9, Acuna is hitting .396 with 12 extra-base hits and 18 RBI. The young prospect was hitting .287 with three doubles, five triples, three homers, 19 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 28 games at High-A Florida before his promotion. As ranked by Baseball America, the Braves No. 6 prospect spent most of last season at Low-A Rome where he posted a .311 batting average with eight extra-base hits, 18 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 40 games. He also appeared in two games with the GCL Braves. A native of Venezuela, Acuna was signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2014.
Parsons, 24, appeared in five games and made two spot-starts for the M-Braves during the month of May. During those games, Parsons recorded a 1.69 ERA, giving up just five hits in 16.0 innings of work. He struck out 11 and walked four. The right-hander was promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett on May 23. In 10 games with the M-Braves this season, Parsons was 0-1 with two saves and a 3.26 ERA. Parsons spent the majority of last season at High-A Carolina where he posted an 0-2 record with a 3.86 ERA in 16 outings. A native of Clarksville, TN, Parsons was signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent on July 30, 2012.
