Wells was placed on the DL back on June 29th with a right elbow strain. He had made 11 starts for the Kernels this season, posting a 4-2 record and 2.21 ERA. In 61 IP, he allowed 45 hits and 17 runs (15 earned) with 16 walks and 82 strikeouts. The Twins selected Wells in the 15th round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of Cal State San Bernardino.
With today's transaction, the Kernels roster remains at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with five players currently on the DL and one player currently on the military leave list.
The Kernels begin a four-game home stand tonight at 6:35 PM against the Quad Cities River Bandits, the Midwest League affiliate of the Houston Astros. The upcoming home stand continues through Sunday, August 13th.
