Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers have named their coaching staffs throughout their minor league system for the upcoming 2018 season and the Quakes will once again have a familiar face back at the helm.
Back to skipper the Quakes for a third consecutive year will be Manager Drew Saylor, who has led the team to the Cal League Playoffs in each of the last two seasons.
Saylor, whose team went 76-64 last season, is now 155-125 in his first two seasons and will be just the third manager in team history to lead the team for three seasons (Mike Basso 1996-1998, Bobby Meacham 2002-2004).
"Returning for a third year, it's incredibly exciting," said Saylor. "There's a lot of optimism within the organization, with the big club being a game away from winning the World Series and the minor league system having so much talent. The Rancho Cucamonga community is so passionate about both the Dodgers and the Quakes, it makes for a unique experience and one that I'm really looking forward to being a part of again."
Saylor's staff will be completely turned over in 2018.
The hitting coach will be Justin Viele, a Fullerton native who will enter his second year with the Dodgers. In 2017, the former Santa Clara Bronco was the hitting coach for the Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer League.
Taking over pitching coach duties will be Connor McGuiness, who also enters his second year in the Dodgers' system. Last season, the Arlington, Virginia native worked in the same role for the Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League, after spending three of the four previous years working for his alma mater, Emory University.
The final member of Saylor's staff will be assistant coach Petie Montero, another second-year member of the Dodgers' system. Montero joins the Quakes after one year of coaching with the Dodgers Dominican Summer League Team.
The Quakes open the 2018 season on the road in Visalia on Thursday, April 5th, then return to Rancho Cucamonga for their Home Opener at LoanMart Field on Thursday, April 12th, as they host the Inland Empire 66ers. Ticket packages are currently available online at rcquakes.com or by calling (909) 481-5000. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field very soon…GO Quakes!
