Reno, Nev. – Albert Almora was honored as the Aces Clubhouse Captain following a standout 2024 campaign, where he played a pivotal role in guiding his team to the Pacific Coast League Playoffs. As a veteran presence, Almora became an invaluable mentor to several young players, including Adrian Del Castillo, with whom he developed a strong bond. His leadership extended beyond the diamond, fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork that was crucial to the Aces' success.
The former World Series champion, who achieved glory with the Chicago Cubs in 2016, was a stabilizing force off the field and a dynamic contributor on it. Almora served as Reno's everyday leadoff hitter, finishing the season with an impressive 292/.349/.438 slash line. His offensive prowess included 56 extra-base hits, nine home runs, and 69 RBIs over 127 games with the Aces.
The former first-round pick led all Minor League Baseball in doubles with 45, just one shy of tying the Aces franchise record. Additionally, he tied for the league lead in hits, matching Oklahoma City's Andre Lipcius with a remarkable 152.
Almora proved challenging for opposing pitchers in 2024, striking out just 81 times in 520 at-bats, resulting in a K% of 14.0—the best in the Pacific Coast League. His ability to make contact consistently was a key asset, as evidenced by his impressive whiff rate of 20.1%. The Florida native shined in May, delivering a stellar performance, slashing .320/.378/.460, including eight doubles, two home runs, 17 RBIs, and 10 walks.
The 30-year-old's impact transcended his individual statistics. His veteran leadership and experience brought a sense of stability to the Aces' young roster, allowing emerging talents to thrive under his guidance. He consistently set an example of professionalism and work ethic, helping to cultivate a winning mentality within the clubhouse.
As the Aces progressed through the season, Almora's contributions became increasingly evident. His ability to produce in clutch situations and provide mentorship created a ripple effect, instilling confidence in his teammates and driving the team forward.
Almora's role as a player and a mentor was instrumental in the Aces' successful 2024 season. His exceptional performance, combined with his leadership qualities, not only helped the team reach the playoffs but also fostered a positive environment for growth and development among younger players. As he heads into the 2025 offseason as a free agent, Almora's contributions to the Aces will leave a legacy, and his next chapter in professional baseball will be one to watch closely. His experience and skill set makes him a valuable member of a clubhouse, and whichever team secures his services will undoubtedly benefit from his leadership both on and off the field.
The Reno Aces will return to action with their 2025 season opener in Las Vegas on Friday, March 28th, and are set to make the club’s home debut at Greater Nevada Field on Tuesday, April 1st, against the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
