RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces kick off their 2024 Pacific Coast League season with a three-game trip to Sin City. Beginning on Friday, they will take on the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. This series will be the start of 21 matchups between the Silver State rivals this season.

In 2023, the Aces recorded 15-9 in 24 matchups against their Silver State rival. They went 5-4 at Greater Nevada Field and 10-5 on the road in Las Vegas.

The "BLC Nine" placed first in the PCL West, third overall (88-62), in 2023 and fell one game short of entering playoffs and defending their Pacific Coast League Championship. The Aces' final loss was to the Aviators, going down 6-5 in the season finale.

Reno's offense this season will have some big shoes to fill, as the club had a record-breaking year at the plate last season. The club led the PCL in six major statistics: AVG (.303), Runs (1043), Hits (1570), RBI (984), OBP (.401), and OPS (.877). They also set franchise records in Wins (88), AVG, Runs, Hits, RBI, BB (815), and OBP.

Left-handed starter Blake Walston, MLB Pipeline's No. 8 Top Prospect in the Diamondbacks' organization, produced a career year on the mound in 2023. The 22-year-old led the PCL in IP (149.1), BAA (.254), W% (.667), and GS (30) while ranking second in ERA (4.52) and W's (12).

On Opening Day, the Aces own a 9-5 record, 3-3 on the road, and 6-2 at Greater Nevada Field.

The Aces faced the Aviators last year on Opening Day at Greater Nevada Field, which featured a high-scoring matchup between the two clubs. Reno would have the upper hand over Las Vegas, defeating the Aviators 13-9.

As a team, Reno hit .312/.411/.508 with 33 HR and 186 RBI against Las Vegas in 2023. They maintained a 6.78 ERA with 223 Ks against the Aviators, while Las Vegas hit .306/.383/.486 with 31 HR, 158 RBI, and a 7.85 ERA with 191 K.

Former top Athletics prospect Tyler Soderstrom headlines the Aviators lineup and has his sights set on rejoining the Major League roster in 2024. Max Muncy, the 21st overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft out of Thousand Oaks High School, is set to make his Triple-A debut for Las Vegas this weekend.

Cristian Mena, the D-backs' No. 11 Top Prospect by MLB Pipeline, will make his Aces debut this weekend. The Arizona Diamondbacks recently acquired him from the Chicago White Sox in a trade for former Reno Aces outfielder Dominic Fletcher.

Outfielder and Arizona's No. 12 Top Prospect by MLB Pipeline, Jorge Barrosa, returns to Reno as he pursues a Major League roster spot.

Slade Cecconi (RNO) and Aaron Brooks (LV) are probable starters for Friday's season opener. Christian Mena (RNO) and Joey Estes (LV) will take the mound in Saturday's matchup.

The Aces will return to Greater Nevada Field on Tuesday, April 2nd, with a six-game series vs. the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
