Velazquez Named Pacific Coast League Manager of the Year, Garrett & Davidson Garner All-Star Honors

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Ace’s magical 2022 season continues as manager Gil Velazquez was named Pacific Coast League (PCL) Manager of the Year in addition to outfielder Stone Garrett and infielder Matt Davidson garnering PCL All-Star selections announced by Minor League Baseball today.
In his first season as manager of the Aces, Velazquez led Reno to the league-best 85-63 record and won the franchise’s second PCL Championship. Reno’s 85 victories set a club record for most regular season wins. This is the first time a Reno Aces manager has taken home the league’s top honor.
Garrett was one of the best outfielders in the PCL before his August 17th call-up to the big leagues and an offensive force for the Aces in the 103 games he played for Reno this season. The Sugar Land, Tex. native led the team in runs (73), total bases (221), home runs (28), RBI (95), slugging pct. (.568), and OPS (.900). He additionally ranked in the Top 10 in the PCL in home runs, RBI, slugging percentage, OPS, extra-base hits, and total bases.
Regarded as the PCL’s best first baseman, Davidson only played in 11 games with the Aces during the first month of the season. While with Reno, he hit .386 with eight home runs and 12 RBI. He finished the 2022 season with the Las Vegas Aviators with a combined .310 batting average, 32 home runs, and 66 RBI.
