MEMPHIS -- Behind a season-high 18-hit attack, the Missions handily polished off the Memphis Redbirds with an 8-0 whitewash Tuesday night at AutoZone Park. It was the club's Triple-A leading eighth shutout of the season and second in the series.
Bubba Derby (1-3) turned in his longest outing of the season, limiting the Redbirds to three hits over six innings of work to claim his first win of the season. Derby even helped himself at the plate by doubling home a pair of runs in the sixth inning.
Nate Orf led the offensive barrage by tying his career high with four hits. He was one of six Missions to notch a multi-hit effort in the game. Every San Antonio starter collected at least one hit.
The win was the most lopsided of the year for San Antonio, which has now captured 10 straight over Memphis with one more to play in the season series. During the streak the Redbirds have scored just 19 runs while getting shutout three times by the Missions.
The Missions (33-20) increased their American Southern Division lead to 1 1/2 games ahead of Round Rock while winning for the 18th time in the last 26 games. That win total leads all Triple-A teams, dating to May 3.
